Webinars of interest: Anal Cancer Screening

HPV and anal cancer screening for people living with HIV

Date & Time: March 19, 2026 12:00pm EST | Register here.

Presented in partnership with the Community-Based Research Centre.

This webinar builds awareness of anal cancer, its link to human papillomavirus (HPV) and the importance of anal cancer screening for people living with HIV. The session provides an overview of the current screening landscape in Canada, including barriers to accessible and effective screening and strategies to address them at the community, service provider and health system levels.

Anal cancer is one of the most common cancers among people living with HIV and nearly all cases are caused by certain types of HPV, a very common sexually transmitted infection. Vaccination before exposure to these cancer-causing strains can prevent anal cancer. Those who already have cancer-causing types of HPV can benefit from early intervention if they are screened.

Moderator: Brook Biggin, Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC)

Speakers:

  • Dr. Alexandra de Pokomandy, Associate Professor, McGill University

  • Devan Nambiar, Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance
